A Great year for HIVSTERS!
This year seems to be bursting at the seams with research and medicinal studies about HIV; some claim they can help prevent being infected by HIV, recently there’s talk of slowing the progression of the disease and scientist are even talking about the possibility of cure. It’s exciting stuff!I know there’s a bunch of research to come, probably years of it. But for the first time I feel like there’s a possibility thatgeneration Y will see a cure for HIV/AIDS!
Here’s a recent story that we can add to the dozen others like it where researchers claim statins (a class of drug used to lower cholesterol levels) may slow progression of HIV/AIDS:
“Preliminary research suggests that statins restrain the immune systems of HIV patients and may stave off progression of the AIDS-causing virus.”
2011 is definitely turning out to be the year of the Gay, our second class-citizenry, for the LGBTQ community and the HIV/AIDS community, is slowly but steadily being swept away. YAY for us!
