Tv’s New Line Up: Part 2
The Good
American Horror Story: YES. YES. YES. FUCKING YES! With a bevy of star power, nearly perfect script, and amazing style, this new horror show packs a knockout punch I have been waiting for this season! Don’t let the fact that it was created by the minds behind Glee turn you off. Remember they also brought us Nip/Tuck. Hopefully the writing on this show won’t end up at the bottom of a downward spiral much like Glee. Starring Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Jessica Lange, Denis O’Hare, Frances Conroy and Zachary Quinto. On FX Wednesday at 10pm eastern. A+
Homeland: A physiological thriller that focuses on CIA operative, played by Claire Danes (yes, the one from My So Called Life), who is desperate need to find out if a newly returned captive Marine has been turned and is a security threat. This is smartly written and great acting performances have the ability to keep you guessing. Also starring Mandy Patinkin (Dead Like Me, The Princess Bride), Damian Lewis (Life, Band of Brothers), and Morena Baccarin (Firefly, V). If you liked the suspenseful international intrigue of ’24′, you will love this show. On Showtime, Sundays at 10pm eastern. B+
The Bad
How to Be A Gentleman: The only thing I am going say about this show is: Why? On CBS Saturday at 8:30pm. F-
The Undecided
Terra Nova: Terra Nova centers around a family in 2149 that time travels 85 million years back in time to start a new life. So it’s like if you put Battlestar Gallactica, Land of the Lost and Lost in a blender you would get Terra Nova. Hopefully this show will lose its cheesy family qualities and start being the great Sci-fi show we desperately yearn for. On Fox, Mondays at 8pm eastern. C+
Revenge: Revenge: A beautiful girl changes her name, moves back to the Hamptons, and seeks revenge on the people that framed her father. This show claims to be a contemporary adaptation of ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ but doesn’t quite succeed and ends up more like a cross between Alias and Gossip Girl. While there may be potential for a good show, most of the time I find myself wondering how did this girl learn to be a spy? Another thought that I found myself pondering is, what happens when she gets her revenge, will the show end, will there be more revenge? The overall production is okay, but sometimes the script and the acting can be heavy handed. I don’t know if it is because of the show itself or because of Madeleine Stowe’s bad plastic surgery that I am still compelled to watch. On ABC, Wednesday at 10pm eastern. C-
Suborgatory: This show is a full-on Monet. A single father moves his teenage girl to the suburbs to avoid the horrors of life in Manhattan. I am not quite sure what this show is trying to be: Maybe A little bit of Mean Girls meets Desperate Housewives? While that combo has my gay sensibilities standing on end, the writing tends to be a little more saccharin then sharp witted; A little more day camp then gay camp. I hope this show gets the swift kick in the pants it so painfully needs. On ABC Wednesday at 8:30pm eastern. C-
