Album Review: My Brightest Diamond’s All Things Will Unwind
After the birth of her son and the death of her grandmother, Shara Worden, known to us as The Brightest Diamond, delivers unto us: All Things Will Unwind. From the opening track it is clear that her writing skills have far surpassed that of her first two albums. She gives us not only the indie-pop-rock quality that we love, in Unwind she throws in a dash of whimsical instrumentations that subtly changes the entirety of her sound.
In Unwind, the instrumentations are not the only thing striking, Worden’s voice is in top form. Her voice morphs from song to song to paint the world she envisions. When she sings those quirky up-tempo pieces her voice can be crystal clear, commanding and even sometimes jazzy.
(4 out of 5 stars)
It is those understated ballads where her voice really soars. In the song, She Does not Brave the War, she sounds like a skilled French cabaret singer fraught with fragility that might shatter at any moment but not before it shatters your heart.
All Things Will Unwind is a whimsical-folk-pop album that mesmerizes the ear from start to finish. Other Standout songs: Reaching Through to the Other Side, In the Beginning, Escape Routes, Everything is in Line and Be Brave.
