Rick Santorum is a piece of work.

And he’s currently super bummed.

He doesn’t understand why people might equate a political position with bigotry. He’s flummoxed that his political beliefs might be misinterpreted as hate.

Matters of logic and deduction confuse Rick.

He loves everybody yet he’s so misunderstood.

Why can’t he hold opinions contrary to, nay, even inimical to the queer community without being called a bigot?

Hmmm….

Well, here’s one reason: because, Ric, political positions don’t reside in some ethereal realm apart from reality where unicorns drink from streams and angels feed on honeysuckle. Your political positions are not some theoretical exercise.  And these positions on gay rights are not purely utilitarian or practical positions like on, say, infrastructure or net neutrality.

Your political positions affect my life. More to the point, your political positions are enabled and motivated by your personal ideology – one that says I am not equal to another human being because of whom I love. Indeed, I am ‘less than’ because of whom I love, something I did not choose but would gladly choose now that I’m living it.

And you don’t understand how your political positions could be misconstrued as hate, Ric? Indeed, you even believe you’re acting within the Christian tradition of love.

Dear dear Ric, maybe people think you’re a bigot not because you’re misunderstood but because you’re understood all too well.

And, oh yeah. This is priceless. Apparently, he’s got gay friends.  So, he couldn’t be a bigot. *cough*
